Fortune favours big business

   
All eyes turned to George Osborne as he announced the 2012 budget last month. Unsurprisingly, this brought its fair share of ups and downs on both a personal and business level. On first inspection, the cuts to corporation tax down to 24% will improve the ability and incentive to run a profitable business and will have certainly been received positively. The coalition's efforts to show their support of the 'little man' has also brought about a move that will benefit SMEs, with a tax simplification that means firms will only have to pay tax on the amount of money they have actually received, rather than current orders which have yet to be paid. However, when you consider the size of a business that earns under £77,000 a year, you are left with a substantial number of medium sized companies that slip through the net and fail to receive any significant gain from the budget.
